News-September 2011
Sept 21st 2011
We look forward to seeing everyone here next week! Ride Safe & we mean that!
Speaking of riding safe, we want everyone to arrive here in one piece, have a blast while you are here, then arrive back home with both you and your ride intact. On top of the usual encouragement to be aware of your surroundings as you ride here and during the rally (for that matter anywhere,) a personal experience Sunday evening brings me to relay just how important it is to NEVER let your guard down... be it in a car or on your ride.
On Sunday evening a routine trip to the grocery store and then onto a friends for BBQ turned in to what we all fear the most, being struck by an inattentive Dumbass! (I do have other words for this driver but Dumbass will do for now) For all those traveling here there is certainly more the than the dumbass driver I encountered to look out for! Just when you think you are doing everything right someone can come along in an instant to ruin your day, your vehicle, and potentially your physical well being. In my usual assessment of my surroundings and other traffic at the time I had no feeling there would be any immediate threat.. one car in front of me, one behind, no other traffic.
The car in front of me signaled to turn left, I slowed almost to a stop and only then I glanced in the rear view mirror to see a Dodge Truck filling my mirror in a way that you know you are about to be hit hard (not a good feeling at all). No escape route and for that matter no time to do it if there was... rear-ended at 30 plus MPH. Basically became a tin sandwich after being hit and then launched into the car in front of me. I am very grateful to have basically walked away, had I been on my bike there is no way I would have survived!
Once again, Never let your guard down, even when you think you are on top of it.
In another incident last week over in Panama City, a local rider lost his life to another dumbass, this time the dumbass didn't want to wait two seconds and made a left in front of two riders. One missed the other didn't, our thoughts are with his family and friends for this senseless loss.
It is also worth mentioning that at last Spring's rally we lost a rider due to the same inattentiveness I experienced, struck from behind with no warning and nowhere to escape.
That said, I hope relaying the experience will help you be just a little more aware as you make your journey here for the rally and also while you are here.
See everyone in just a few days!

Just a few weeks to go! The Labor Day Holiday weekend is almost here! One thing for sure is that at the end of this month we will be having a great time from one end of the beach to the other... enjoying the roar that comes with each rally.
Looking forward to your arrival!
If you noticed this banner image on the home page slideshow it's to let you know to check out the local Biker Friendly Area Businesses while you are here.
We prodive this FREE online listing and also provide them with FREE posters just so they can let you know you are welcome here!! We don't require advertising or what would be called a rally sponsorship to be listed here or to display the poster. Some that you see listed are longtime hubs of rally activities and entertainment, others are local businesses that offer event specials, merchandise, or would like to have you stop by.
Over the next few weeks our Autumn Rally poster will be distributed, new businesses added to the Welcome Page and a new rally guide map will be up.
Just a heads up if you are a music fan... If you happen to come on down the weekend before the rally (the weekend that would normally be the traditional rally weekend) there is a country music festival in the works taking place on Sept. 23rd & 24th Headlined by Jason Aldean & Miranda Lambert! All the Info right here. Jason Aldean puts on a great show, got to see him perform last year when they opened for Ozzy at the Buffalo Chip Campground in Sturgis!
